Program Notes:
"Atila" is a 6-minute work for horn trio. The piece is a harmonic and timbral meeting of Asia and Europe, with intervals of exactly 5,
The rich harmonies, maqamal scales and tetrachords of the Middle East and Asia are blended together. Microtonal sounds (coma sounds) and accompanying harmonic structures announce the sound cluster horizontally and vertically, asymmetrical textures horizontally, and clunky rhythm patterns and asymmetrical additions occasionally horizontally.
Inspired by my nephew Atila, who was born in May this year, the piece is a reflection on the era of Atila, the founder of the first empire that united Asia and Europe.
