Pink Siifu - BLACK'!ANTIQUE | GENRE-BENDING MASTERPIECE? album reaction (while drawing!)

spoiler alert I love this album. I've been following pink siifu's music since gumbo and have even seen him live a couple times... so I was already a fan but I feel he really outdid himself with this one. at the top of the album pink siifu plays with noisy, abrasive soundscapes that reflect our present times -- a harsh reality revolving around money, violence, social media, the industry. he contrasts these moments with a blurry, trance-y, rhythmic escapism in tracks like "girls fall out tha sky" and "PSA". other tracks recall simpler, slower times. a more soulful and earthy past. i.e. "LOCKED IN'!" feels like dusting off an old record found in your grandparent's attic that they used to get freaky to back in the day. "BLACKWATER'!" is like bathing yourself in a river haunted by your long lost ancestors.

as a whole, BLACK'!ANTIQUE is an ode to the past and future of Black art. diverse. complex. both hard and soft, radical and intimate. Big Rube sums it up with the album's final words: "my people are original and divinely unique and our value will keep rising like some black antiques". props to Pink Siifu for pushing the genre.
