Three Songs about Lenin (Russian: Три песни о Ленине) is a 1934 film by Dziga Vertov.
This is Vertov's latest work. The film, based on three folk songs from Uzbekistan, aims to be a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Lenin's death.
The first song, "My Face was Locked in a Dark Prison" (3:40), describes the emancipation of Muslim women from the constraints of their society;
in the second, "We Loved Him" (18:43), the life of Lenin is retraced;
in the third, "In the Great Stone City" (38:38), the objectives achieved by the great socialist work are illustrated.
Vertov was a sincere admirer of Lenin and deeply adhered to his political views. This is also why the director became disliked by the new Stalinist regime and was gradually put aside. He passed away in 1954 due to cancer.
