Wolgan View Canyon - AKA Dry Canyon - Newnes Plateau - Lithgow - Blue Mountains Canyoning - 4K

Wolgan View Canyon (Dry Canyon) is located not far from the Glow Worm Tunnel, and the carpark is located approx 1km before the entrance to the old tunnel you drive through to get to the glow worm tunnel. The walk then starts just on the other side of the wire rope fence marking the left side carpark.

The walk is very family friendly and mildly undulates for most of it through stunning pagodas (rock formations), passing 2 campsites til you reach the first short section of open slot canyon.

At the exit to this section, if you hug the right, you will take the "adventure" route that we took, at a large tree before you hug right, turn left and scramble up a sloped rock to find the path for a more family friendly route. You will come to a proper easy scramble down, once down a short walk and you will enter the next dark slot section of canyon.

Another easy scramble at the end of this and along a well-lit section, into a large chamber and back out into the open. There is a rough track leading forwards, but, you never do get a really good view down over the Wolgan Valley and the resort below.

You can see easily depending on the time of the day, through midday, the sun streams into the canyon from above lighting it up in a spectacular way. To see the canyon in 2 "modes" I recommend arriving by 11am, do the walk through, then when it is time to return, the sun will be directly above and the walls will glow orange in places.

This is a really easy outing for the whole family, does not take a lot of time and is a stunning introduction to wet canyoning.
