The colors of acids. Acids make indicators go red if they are strong enough and concentrated enough to be pH 1 .
Alkalies are used if your sink is blocked because alkalies dissolve hair but don't dissolve the metal pipes under your sink. Alkalies make the universal indicator on pH paper go purple if the alkalies are strong enough and concentrated enough to be pH 14 .
Alkalies make the litmus from lichens go blue if the alkalies are strong enough and concentrated enough to be pH 14 .
