Location:
Kondapalli Fort is located in Kondapalli village, approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Nestled in the picturesque Eastern Ghats, it sits atop a hill known as Kondapalli Hill. The fort is easily accessible by road and is a prominent tourist attraction near Vijayawada.
*Kondapalli Fort was constructed in the 14th century by Prolaya Vema Reddy, the founder of the Reddy Kingdom. The fort served as a military stronghold and a trading hub
In the 15th century, the fort came under the rule of the Gajapati kings of Odisha, who further fortified it.
During the 16th century, the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golconda captured Kondapalli Fort. They used it as a base for their military operations.
After the decline of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, the Mughals, under Emperor Aurangzeb, took control of the region.
The fort was later used by the British as a military training base and a storage area for weapons.
Kondapalli Fort is not just a military relic but also a site that symbolizes the architectural and historical confluence of various dynasties that ruled Andhra Pradesh.
Main Gate (Dargha Darwaza):
A 12-meter-high gate built with granite, serving as the main entrance to the fort.
