Hyuran: A New Tapestry Woven with Nishijin’s Rare Hikibaku Technique and MANGA Expression
Born from a collaboration between Okamoto Orimono and the young manga creator unit Granuto, Hyuran is a new tapestry woven using “hikibaku,” a rare and traditional technique passed down in Kyoto’s Nishijin district.
This video documents the creative process—how silk and foil intertwine to form a layered narrative.
In an era where traditional crafts are once again finding voice as a form of expression, Okamoto Orimono engages with manga, a contemporary storytelling medium, through the timeless language of weaving.
Hyuran will be exhibited at the Japan International Expo 2025 (Osaka-Kansai Expo), at the EXPO Messe “WASSE” venue in October 2025.

京都・西陣に伝わる希少な織技術「引箔」を用い、若手マンガクリエイターユニット「ぐらにゅーとー」とのコラボレーションによって生まれた新作タペストリー『ひゅらん。』。

伝統工芸が“表現”として再び語りはじめる時代に、岡本織物は「引箔」という技術を通じて、マンガという現代の物語形式と向き合いました。
