This film explores the deep historical ties between the Danish Seamen’s Church (Former Golden Bell Mansion) and the Danish community in Singapore. It shows how the building evolved from a private residence into a site for the community—serving sailors and royal members from Denmark after 1850, and later becoming a central space for recreation and church services for Singapore’s Danish community.
Through interviews with clergy, volunteers, seamen, and residents, the film weaves together diverse perspectives to show how the church fosters unity. It also highlights how the restoration transformed the once moldy, termite-infested building into a renewed space while preserving its original design. The film sheds light on the hardships faced by the restoration team throughout the process. It further explores the practical challenges encountered by the Danish Seamen’s Church Singapore (DSCS) team—such as cultural adaptation and fundraising—and their innovative efforts to sustain the community.
