Explore the Reopened Darwins Walk | Wentworth Falls Creekside Trail | Family Friendly! Dog Friendly!

After years of closure and painstaking restoration, Darwins Walk is finally open again! This scenic trail honours Charles Darwin’s 1836 journey along Jamison Creek to the top of Wentworth Falls.

Darwins Walk in Wentworth Falls has reopened in September 2025 after being closed for over five years. Severe flooding in February 2020 destroyed bridges and boardwalks along the track, forcing a complete closure. Additional storms in 2021 made things worse, and the walk remained off-limits while major works were planned. Thanks to a multi-million-dollar restoration effort — including new bridges, elevated boardwalks, and helicopter-delivered materials — the track has been rebuilt and improved for future generations.

The walk is named in honour of Charles Darwin, who in 1836 followed Jamison Creek from the old Weatherboard Inn (now Wentworth Falls village) to near the top of what we now call Wentworth Falls. Today, this much-loved trail is approximately 2.4km one way, tracing that same creek valley route.

It is family-friendly, though not wheelchair accessible, and dog-friendly until the boundary of the Blue Mountains National Park. You can enjoy it as a there-and-back walk, or extend your adventure by connecting to the wider network of tracks near Wentworth Falls.

This is a great, easy walk you can do straight off the train. From Wentworth Falls Station it’s less than a 10-minute walk to Wilson Park, where Darwins Walk begins — making it one of the most accessible bushwalks in the Blue Mountains.

Darwins Walk now combines history, resilience, and natural beauty — a Blue Mountains classic that has finally returned after years of closure.
