Sunday July 16th 2015, major storm outbreak across W Ireland, 1500 MU CAPE, 2000 SB CAPE, strong shear, ESTOFEX level 1 for rainfall, hail, multicells and transient supercells. Roisin and I chased to the target area, we made a road trip out of it stopping at Mullaghmore, then the stunning Benbulbin mountain.
Then our target area at Rosse's Point near Sligo Bay where we watched this huge multicell storm approach and move out to sea, we had the perfect view of the structure off to the side. Powerful updraughts, flanking towers and anvil sheared miles downwind. Reports from below the storm say it was flashing i-c bolts every second for a long time with intense wind and rain. Some say it was the worst electrical storm they had ever experienced comparable to storm's they had witnessed in France.
The hightight for us was catching the storm with Black Rock lighthouse, perfect way to end the day.
