At this time of the year, social media is abuzz with proud parents posting adorable and cute pictures of their bundles of joy stepping into the classroom for the first time.
This is an example of what is called "sharenting", which refers to sharing parenting moments online. Experts warn, however, that posting children on social media may expose them to serious risks. They say, the advent of artificial intelligence significantly increases the dangers associated with "sharenting". Recently, an AI Chatbot that is a feature of a popular social media platform, came under intense global scrutiny for allegedly allowing users to create and share sexualised images of children. So, what regulatory mechanisms should be devised to safeguard children's safety and their dignity online?
