Some of my happiest moments are when I'm making something. I tend to potter around when I'm not at work - somehow it relaxes me more than sitting still. I spent a few hours before a work-from-home day creating a nice environment.
I checked in at the LA Flower market in the morning to see what was in bloom and left with sweet pea, poppies and forget-me-nots which I promptly arranged when I got home. After a trip to the Korean supermarket I ate a quick lunch of Unagi and Korean noodles before setting up my computer and buckling down.
Join me in this video as I:
Prepare my home workspace with a lily of the valley candle by Guerlain and ambient music by Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Roger Eno
Reflect on my mother’s quirky fascination with supermarket produce bags
Receive an impromptu jewelry-making lesson at a bead store in San Marino
Explore Halloween decorations at Michael’s
Have a craft night with Brennan where we recreated jewelry designs we
spotted at Dries Van Noten
Experiment with layering perfumes, including Iris Silver Mist by Serge Lutens, to capture the scent of bearded iris
It was surprisingly satisfying to work with lapis lazuli, tiger’s eye, agate, and chains — and we’re already planning another night to share the experience with friends.
What creative pursuits do you weave into your daily life? Do you have a practice where time seems to stand still? Let me know in the comments — I’d love to hear about your rituals.
Perfumes mentioned in this video: Iris Silver Mist by Serge Lutens, Molecule 01 + Iris by Escentric Molecules and Cedrat Ceruse by L'Artisan Parfumeur, Muguet de Printemps by Guerlain and more.
