Lavish biographical film about the legendary Russian dancer Vaslav Nijinsky (George de la Peña) and his relationship with his mentor and lover Sergei Diaghilev (Alan Bates), founder of the Ballets Russes.
Making his film debut, Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune, 1991) plays Ballets Russes resident choreographer (not for much longer, apparently) Michel Fokine.
Directed by Herbert Ross from a screenplay by Hugh Wheeler (based in part on Nijinsky's published diaries), the film co-stars Leslie Browne, Janet Suzman, Colin Blakely, and Alan Badel.
