Here's something I did for fun. It turned out much better than I expected it would.
Guitars - Ibanez RG560 with a Duncan JB in the bridge. One of the harmony lead lines was played on the neck pickup - a DiMarzio Fast Track 2. Run through a PodXT Pro on a 5150 model. I intended it to be temporary until I hooked up the big amps, but I'm actually pretty happy with the guitar sound. 8 tracks of guitars, too many takes to count cuz tho it seems like simple stuff that repeats some of it is a bitch to get clean.
Vocals - my throat through a MXL V69 ME tube mic straight into the crappy mic pre on my MOTU UltraLite mk3. I am NEVER happy with my vocals -- until now. The vocals here are one take, unedited. No autotune (clearly, as a few flat notes will show). I think this is the first song I ever put down without the benefit of a lyric sheet. The words to this have been burned into my brain by countless repeated listenings since 1993.
Piano - converted to MIDI and corrected (some super terrible stuff toward the end) from Guitar Pro tab - run through Ivory plugin with Steinway samples.
Drums - converted to MIDI, corrected fills, altered velocity and run through EZDrummer DFH kit.
Bass - converted to MIDI, run through Samplitude's Revolta 2 VSTi on a generic E-bass preset
Photo by me - taken in June, 2013 while on a business trip to Tampa.
