On US 82, I set out to explore the historic towns and communities of Willacoochee, Kirkland and Pearson, but things took an unexpected turn when I ventured down a remote sandy dirt road -- and got stuck! After a little help and through a lot of sand, I made it to the Salem Church, where I discovered a remarkable Confederate soldier monument in its cemetery.

Along this journey, you'll find hidden gems, small-town history and a few eerie surprises you won't want to miss.
