Skagway - A September walking tour.

There’s something about arriving in Skagway that feels like stepping into a storybook—one written in gold dust and mountain mist. As our Princess cruise ship glides into port, the morning light spills over the jagged peaks, painting them in hues of silver and sage. It’s September, and the air is crisp— light drizzle of rain is just enough to wake you up without biting the cold of winter that has not yet set in. The summer crowds have thinned, and the town breathes a little deeper, a little slower.
I step off the ship and onto the wooden boardwalks of Broadway Street, where history whispers from every storefront. This was once the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush, and you can still feel the ambition in the bones of the buildings. But today, I’m chasing a different kind of treasure—quiet moments, scenic views, and the thrill of discovery.
The White Pass & Yukon Route railway is a popular choice for cruise passengers. As they board the vintage train, its emerald cars will be winding up into the mountains. The views are staggering—glacial valleys, waterfalls tumbling down granite cliffs, and bridges that seem to float above the abyss.
We stayed Back in town, I wander past quirky shops and cozy cafés, the scent of spruce and fresh-baked cinnamon rolls in the air. We stopped in for some delicious fudge and some hot coffee. Locals smile and wave, and I feel like I’ve been welcomed into a secret club of those who know how magical this place really is.
