Marc Mellits - Chemical Reaction

Chemical Reaction by Marc Mellits was commissioned by Hana Beloglavec and Louisiana State University. This piece is for loop pedal and trombone - here you can see the Boss RC-300 in use.

I first started using this loop pedal to perform Florian Magnus Maier's piece Slipstream. I love the piece, but wanted to be able to use my loop pedal for other pieces as well, so I decided to commission works for the pedal. I first was introduced to Marc's music here at LSU when WindSync played his piece Apollo - I found myself entranced by the music and reached out shortly after. "Chemical Reaction" as a title takes a special place in my heart in title due to my love of cooking as a hobby - most notably the "maillard reaction" in cooking can take amino acids and sugars to turn them into a delicious brown crust.

In this performance of Chemical Reaction, I hope you find some moments of zen, some intensity, and some time to simply rock out.
