Navigating job tenure has changed drastically within the last few generations. The idea of "paying your dues" has been replaced by the practice of "shopping around" for the ideal position and work environment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median number of years that wage and salary workers have been with their current job is 3.9 years, and the median tenure of workers ages 55 to 64 (9.6 years) was more than three times that of workers ages 25 to 34 (2.7 years).
For those who have stayed in the same role and field for a longer period of time, it is easy to fall into the monotony of the workplace. This presentation will share a variety of ways to reinvigorate daily work life and reframe perspectives on employment tenure. For experienced and new workers, library professionals and outside perspectives, this presentation appeals to all. Discussion to follow as time permits.
