On a perfect snowy-yet-overly-freezing morning, Lima Locomotive Works N-1 class 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive #1225, a familiar friend to our cameras, struts her stuff down the ex-Ann Arbor (now Great Lakes Central/Watco) mainline to "The North Pole", or Ashley, MI. After a long year of the dedicated crews of the Steam Railroading Institute re-tubing and refurbishing the '25s superheaters and flues while also tackling overheating bearing boxes, she now is running her regularly scheduled "North Pole Express" trips as she is so famously known for after starring for the sounds and model of "The Polar Express" movie. Join us as we take to the mainline to chase the pride of the Pere Marquette railway run, the outrageous highstepping 1225!
