The iconic nīkau palms that adorn the entryway of the Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central Library have a fresh copper wrapping, giving them a new sense of life. For their beautiful restoration, we bought back John Mines, the original engineer of the nīkau trees, and Athfield Architects, the original architects of the library. To wrap the trees, John remanufactured his purpose-built machine, which intricately wrapped the nīkau in copper. The details are stunning, restoring them to their former glory.
