How to install a SOLAR PANEL to your car (and have it work seamlessly!)

In this video I show you how to add a solar panel to your car. Most people have a second battery / auxiliary battery for running their lights, fridge and other accessories particularly if you like a camping / off grid lifestyle. Normally, the car or truck will charge the starter battery and the second battery, but how do you add a solar panel to charge the auxiliary battery when the car is turned off? And have it automatically allow the alternator to charge both batteries when the car is turned on again? Watch this video to find out!

Of course, you can buy expensive dc to dc chargers with solar capability but none will be as affordable as this method, which matters if you are building a camping rig / van on a budget.

Normally, to keep the starter battery from draining down too low, most people will run a Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) otherwise known as a secondary battery isolator, smart isolator, etc. In this video I show you how to add a solar panel onto this system so that when the car is running, the alternator will charge everything and when the car is turned off, the system will automatically start charging off solar.

If you have a DC to DC charger (which a lot of modern cars have smart alternators so a DC to DC charger is preferred over a VSR), I also show you how to add a solar panel so that the DC-DC charger will work when the car is running and will switch to solar power when the car is off.

In part 2 I show you how to add some REALLY cool features, such as being able to choose manually whether to charge off solar or alternator, how to backcharge the starter battery using solar and how to JOIN the two batteries together to start the car in an emergency if the starter battery is too low to start by itself.
