Just 3 days after I returned from a much needed holiday, I was out chasing once again with a couple of good mates. The Weymouth Seaside Express on the 11th August, 45 years to the day since BR ran it's last steam hauled train - The 15 Guinea Special, would be hauled by newly overhauled GW Castle, 5029 Nunney Castle.
We begin at Weymouth station, with 5029 sneaking almost silently into platform 3. After allowing the passengers to disembark, the Castle departed for Jersey sidings, where it would drop off it's coaching stock. In order to get the locomotive to Yeovil Junction for turning and servicing, it is necessary to pull into Weymouth station before departing in reverse back to Yeovil. Unfortunately, my arrival shot of 5029 didn't import correctly onto my computer, so there is only the departure shot.
Having been to the pub, it was to Upwey for the return. After seeing 5029 reversing through Upwey and heading to Weymouth to collect the coaching stock, everyone prepared for the sound of a single chimney Castle storming up the bank. The issue with being low down on the platform was that I had very little control over the zoom and pan, and as a result I have had to stabilise a nasty jolt just as 5029 approaches. It didn't come out too bad in the end, could've been much worse!
Having experienced 5029 and 44932 over Upwey, I'd say the better performance was with 44932. I'll be uploading a short comparison video later today to compare the two ascents, and I would like to hear your views on which was best!
