The delegation led by Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs Alexander Schallenberg, who has arrived in Armenia on a working visit, on Wednesday visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan—and accompanied by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
Meanwhile, during the join press conference with Mirzoyan, the Austrian FM noted that the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey will be a major step for the whole region.
The Austrian minister was asked about the solution of humanitarian issues arising from the aggression of Azerbaijan, primarily the Armenians held captive in Baku. However, he noted that the international community cannot replace the political will of the parties.
In turn, Mirzoyan noted that Azerbaijan puts obstacles to the work of international organizations in Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh].
According to him, even the ICRC, this purely humanitarian organization, is forced by Azerbaijan to fit into the policy dictated by it. The minister recalled that the ICRC is the only organization that has previously worked in Karabakh. Now Azerbaijan limits this too, Mirzoyan added.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reacted to the statement of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan regarding Baku's attempts to limit the activities of the ICRC.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry immediately reacted to this message. According to the head of the Azerbaijani MFA press service, "the comment of the representative of a third state in this matter is inappropriate."
"It would be good if the Armenian Foreign Minister directly commented on the issues related to the fulfillment of the country's obligations to establish peace in the region," the MFA added.
