Gundlupet is the last town in Karnataka on the National Highway 766 which goes through Mysore, Ooty, Wayanad, and Calicut. It is situated very close to the Tamil Nadu and Kerala state borders. NH 181 begins from Gundlupet and ends in Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu via Ooty and Coimbatore.
The Muthanga range is home to moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, bamboo thickets and plantations. Situated on the border of Coorg and Wayanad, the Muthanga forest houses rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. It has a large number of jumbos and has been declared a Project Elephant site.
Bandipur is a small town near Karnataka -Tamil Nadu border. Being famous for its Tiger Reserve, which was established in 1974, Bandipur forest stretches over an entire length of over 220 km
