Communal tension has been building up at Thiruparankundram, the first of the six abodes of Lord Muruga or Karthikeya. The holy hill in Madurai, has largely stood as a symbol of communal harmony. Now it is at the centre of a heated debate that has sparked tensions between Hindu and Muslim outfits. What is this controversy all about?
Thiruparankundram is a serene hill with deep spiritual significance. At its base is the renowned Subramaniya Swamy Temple, while on its summit sits the Sultan Sikkandar Avulia Dargah or the Sikkandar Dargah. There is also the Kashi Viswanathar Temple on the hills. Hindu and Muslim worship places have co-existed on the hills for a few centuries now.
