In Speaking of Harpo (speakingofharpo.com), Susan writes about Harpo’s Concert Bazaar, the show Harpo took on the road in the fall of 1950. One of the highlights was a musical segment featuring Harpo as the mad conductor, Harponini. Harpo started developing the character during shows with his brother Chico in 1949. When Harpo and Chico appeared at the Emerald Room at the Shamrock Hotel in Houston, Texas in February 1950 a photographer captured numerous images of Harpo rehearsing the Harponini portion of the show. The photographs were found in Susan’s archive, and most have never been seen publicly. No film footage was ever shot of Harpo as Harponini. This video sets those still images to music performed by a close friend of Harponini.
