Hey everyone, this is Kristen with the Hiss’n Kitten Waxing Center and I wanted to talk about a salon that made the news due to some drama that happened in the beauty industry recently.
I’m not sure if you guys have heard about this already but there was a hair stylist in Maryland that is now facing second-degree assault charges after a video was captured of her dragging a teenage client across a salon floor for allegedly attempting to walk out of her appointment without paying the bill.
Apparently, the 15 year old girl who had just gotten a weave put in, tried to run out of the salon. Jayla, the hair stylist, stopped her and then proceeded to drag her by her jacket back inside the salon and said she can’t go anywhere until she pays her for the service. If she doesn’t, she is going to cut the weave out of her hair.
The 15 year old girl’s mother says that her daughter wasn’t trying to run, but she just accidentally sent the money to the wrong Cash App account. The stylist ended up cutting the weave out of the girl’s hair because she never provided payment.
I have a couple of things to say about this. Luckily, I have never been in a situation where I had a client try to leave without paying for their service. However, I do know that if that ever happened, I would be absolutely irate so I can’t blame the hair stylist for taking action into her own hands. Now, I don’t think the way she handled the situation was right. Dragging a 15 year old (or anyone for that matter) is way too aggressive and should have never happened. But I can’t blame her for trying to catch her and prevent her from leaving without paying for the service.
Also, any minor should definitely be accompanied by a parent or guardian while receiving any kind of service. I have never had a minor come in without a parent or guardian so she should have enforced that, which most likely would have prevented this from happening.
Additionally, if she accidentally sent the money to the wrong Cash Appt account, why was she trying to run away? If I was in that situation and sent money to the wrong account, I would have immediately shown the stylist proof that I made a mistake so that they know I’m not trying to avoid paying them. I then would have figured out another way to pay them by either calling someone to help or resending the payment to the correct account (as long as you have the money). There is no way I would have tried to leave without ensuring the stylist got paid for the service she provided. I find it extremely weird that the customer tried to run outside if she was trying to figure out a solution. Personally, I think she was trying to scam.
Again, the stylist should have gone about handling the situation in a more professional way, but I can’t blame her for wanting to get paid when she provided a service to someone.
