On Sunday the 23rd of March 2025 at around 12:30PM, C-Series Set 132 broke down at Perth Underground platform 2, blocking trains on the Yanchep Line from entering and continuing through to the Mandurah Line. The train sat there for several hours while crews worked to prepare it to be shunted, including crawling underneath the length of the train and pressing some button to release the brakes(?). Mandurah Line trains were being turned around at Elizabeth Quay while inbound Yanchep Line trains were all continuing through to Perth Stadium to replace the trains which previously would have gone there from Mandurah and to drop passengers off at the above-ground Perth Station instead. This caused further delays to all other train lines, having to fit these Yanchep Line trains in between their already tight schedule, and resulted in some express services running on these lines. Outbound Yanchep Line trains were replaced by train replacement route 904 between Perth and Leederville for some time.
Eventually, a 3-car B-Series finally got the faulty C-Series moving, first north into the tunnel, but then for some reason, back south again through Perth Underground and Elizabeth Quay, before proceeding to get stuck after the neutral section and climb onto the Narrows Bridge. Another 6-car B-Series then had to come and be connected, forming a 15-car consist to push the C-Series to Cockburn Central siding, where it then stayed until after 9PM (unfortunately I didn't get to see it go through to Nowergup after this). Overall, the train was blocking the line for over four hours and the movement from Perth to Cockburn Central took over an hour, during which there were no Mandurah Line services either and train replacement route 909 was deployed.
Also, C-Series set 130 broke down at Whitfords Station at a similar time and was pushed into the Whitfords siding where it also stayed for a significant period of time. Overall, another terrible day for Transperth with the new C-Series trains breaking down and causing massive delays right before, during and after a Stadium event. In fact, it was so bad that the news had reports on it on TV in the evening, and there is even an article written about it using some of my info and images: https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/pert...!
