I changed out the primary oil and was replacing the primary cover when I stripped out the threads. I was using proper torque specifications (84-108 in lbs), but two threads did end up stripping out. I purchased OEM Fix-A-Thread kit at Autozone for $24.83. According to the kit, I was also going to need a 17/64 in drill bit. I picked the drill bit up at Lowes for $3.18.
The install went fine, but I did notice on the first coil insert that when installing the primary cover bolt that I was met with a lot of resistance getting it to install all the way up to the cover plate. I kept turning the bolt in several times and taking it out and everything went well. I did not have this problem on the second coil insert I installed. I may have used too much red Permatex. The prongs on the end of the tool did bend after the first coil insert and the second coil insert. After the first coil install I ended up just bending the tool enough to get the coil insert to seat properly. Also when installing the coil on the 7 o’clock position; my floor board was in the way of the handle when tapping the new threads. That is why you seeing me keep removing the handle instead of leaving it on for a complete 360 degree rotation.
