Who is Syed Ali Musa Gilani?
Ali Musa Gilani is a prominent Pakistani politician, writer, and sportsman, currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) since February 2024. He has previously held the same position during October 2022 to August 2023, and earlier from 2012 to 2013, representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Born into one of Pakistan’s most influential political families, Ali Musa Gilani is the son of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan who served from 2008 to 2012. Carrying forward the family’s political legacy, Ali Musa Gilani has remained an active and visible figure in national politics.

Beyond politics, he is known as a political worker, writer, and polo player, reflecting a diverse public profile that blends governance, intellectual engagement, and sportsmanship.

Political Career

Ali Musa Gilani entered parliamentary politics in February 2012, when he was elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-148 (Multan-I) in a by-election as a PPP candidate. He secured 93,106 votes, defeating Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar.

In the 2013 General Elections, he again contested from NA-148 (Multan-I) on a PPP ticket but was unsuccessful, receiving 49,918 votes. He later contested the 2018 General Elections from NA-157, where he secured approximately 72,000 votes, showing strong electoral support despite not winning the seat.

Ali Musa Gilani returned to the National Assembly in October 2022, reaffirming his political relevance, and continues to serve after being re-elected in February 2024.

Legal & Political Activism

In November 2020, Ali Musa Gilani was arrested in Multan for allegedly organizing a political rally without official permission. He was later released on bail, and the incident did not halt his political activities.

Public Image

Known for his grassroots political engagement, Ali Musa Gilani remains an active participant in Pakistan’s democratic process. His political journey reflects persistence, party loyalty, and a continued presence in national affairs, making him a notable figure within the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistani politics overall.
