Cathy Ripmaster, MSPT discusses a common positioning problem with the Rifton Pacer and how to fix it.
Signs that the chest prompt is too high:
• Less than 3 fingers space between top
of chest pad and axilla
• Fingers and hands cold or discolored
• User looks uncomfortable and is “hanging”
on the chest prompt
• Frame is as high as it can go and user still
has some knee flexion
• User is having difficulty walking
Ways to fix poor positioning:
• Adjust the pelvic positioner, saddle or MPS
to decrease the space between the seat and
the bottom of the chest prompt
• Lower the chest prompt
• Invert the chest prompt
• Adjust the height of the frame
(typically need to lower the frame
and raise the seat)
