After a decade away from film photography, I finally returned to the streets of Melbourne with my Mamiya 645 — a legendary medium format camera from the 1970s. With just 15 frames on a roll of Kodak 200 120 film, I set out to capture the city’s mood on a cloudy day.
This camera is a classic — fully manual, beautifully engineered, and capable of stunning detail. I visited three iconic locations: Degraves Street, Royal Arcade, and Market Lane, each offering a unique atmosphere for medium format storytelling.
📍 Shot in Melbourne, Australia
📸 Camera: Mamiya 645 Medium Format
🎞️ Film: Kodak 200 (120 format)
🌥️ Conditions: Overcast skies, soft natural light
Featured Locations:
Degraves Street – laneway culture and vibrant street life
Royal Arcade – historic architecture and ambient tones
Market Lane – quiet reflections and urban textures
The results? Better than expected — rich tones, beautiful depth, and just a touch of overexposure. This old camera still has plenty to say.
