ExtraOrdinary: Kengo Kuma & Associates presents the new projects in Milan "Welcome / Terrazze Verdi"

Renowned architect Yuki Ikeguchi – Partner at Kengo Kuma & Associates (Tokyo) and Executive Vice President at Kuma & Associates Europe (Paris) – will be protagonist of the fourth episode of ExtraOrdinary: Architectural Challenges, the ultimate Medelhan’s series dedicated to the avant-garde of modern architecture.

Focus of the webinar will be the newest Terrazze Verdi project, with whom Kengo Kuma AA – in collaboration with AKT‐II, Studio Pession, Studio Mongtilio and Manens Tifs – has won the competition to design a mixed use building in the north east of Milan. Proposing natural elements and organic materials that explicitly draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape, the project aims at realizing an harmonious accord between the office and commercial complex and the green area.

The openness to the outdoor space, the wide employment of timber and the attentive use of natural features are intended to the realization of a working space that conveys a sense of comfort and well-being, thus setting the ground for a greenest and more familiar work environment.

The integration of sustainability aspects is at the core of the whole project. A greater attention to sustainability-related qualities and commitments has, indeed, entered the global marketplace. In this context, the ecology conscious identity of the KKAA’s proposal is aimed at attracting forward looking companies and firms that would benefit the environment of the city of Milan.

The design intervention of KKAA is therefore not confined to the building site, as it also comprehends the green promenade along Via Francesco Rubino that connects to the public green plaza of Terrazze Verdi. The overall effect results in a new approach not only to the project, but rather to the entire area of the creek Lambro.
