Cal20 Racing at CBYC on Wednesday, 16 April 2025

This video is reframed, but uncut, meaning it’s a real time depiction of racing boats traveling about 5 mph. In other words, some viewers may find it slow going.

We made some improvements over our first race, but have a long way to go, just to crack the top half of the fleet.

Feeling that last week’s start was too aggressive, we backed off a bit and tried to go along with the pack. The plan worked OK but put us in Godzilla’s shade just off the line. Fortunately, an early tack and no ducks yielded a clear lane toward the right side.

Our upwind boat speed was better than last week, and we seemed to keep up with the boats around us.

Downwind, we were slow on both runs and (re)learned again why it’s important to secure an inside position at the bottom mark.

We(I) had a comms error on the final beat that cost us a place.

Still, we’re getting better and look forward to scoring some mid-fleet finishes… someday.
