Discrete diffusion models face a 'sampling wall' where rich distributional information collapses into one-hot vectors after sampling, hindering subsequent denoising steps. This paper proposes Loopholing, a novel mechanism that uses a deterministic latent pathway to preserve and propagate this critical information across steps, forming Loopholing Discrete Diffusion Models (LDDMs). Utilizing a self-conditioning strategy for efficient training, LDDMs achieve significant improvements, reducing generative perplexity by up to 61% compared to baselines, enhancing text coherence, and boosting performance on reasoning tasks like Countdown and Game of 24. Loopholing mitigates idle steps and oscillations, offering a scalable approach for high-quality non-autoregressive text generation.
