Based on the novel by Victor Canning, "The Hidden Face" was adapted for BBC Radio's "Saturday-Night Theatre." The story follows Peter Barlow, a man who has been wrongly convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence. Despite having both a motive and an opportunity to kill James Gurney Hansford, Barlow maintains his innocence.
After two years in prison, he is helped to escape by a man who believes in his innocence. Determined to clear his name, Barlow sets out to find the real killer and uncover the reason for Hansford's death. His journey is complicated by a dangerous man named Rance, who seems to always be one step behind him.
Along the way, Barlow meets Catherine Swinton, who accidentally stumbles upon his escape and decides to help him. Together, they are led on a chase from the Isle of Wight to London and eventually to Wales. As they get closer to the truth, they find themselves caught in a web of deceit that was spun during the Second World War. The play is a tense thriller, filled with suspense and unexpected twists, as Barlow races to prove his innocence and discover the "hidden face" of the real killer before it's too late.
