Hi friends! Today I’m sharing one of those everyday bread recipes that quietly makes life a little easier.

These quick and fluffy homemade hot dog buns are soft, pillowy, and ready in under an hour and a half, using your stand mixer.

This is a big batch recipe that makes 16 buns, which makes it perfect for busy weeks, family dinners, or stocking the freezer so you’re not running to the store for buns at the last minute.

They’re lightly sweet, bakery-soft, and far better than store bought. We use them for hot dogs, bratwursts, chili dogs, and even sandwiches.

Ingredients (makes 16 hot dog buns):

• 1 cup milk
• 1 cup water
• 4 tbsp white sugar
• 4 tsp active dry yeast
• 5 ½ cups bread flour
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 large eggs
• ½ cup salted butter, softened

Egg wash:
• 1 egg
• 2 tbsp water

Instructions:

1️⃣ Add the milk and water to a jug and then warm it for just 45 minutes in a microwave. Add the warmed liquid to the bowl of your stand mixer.

2️⃣ Add the sugar and yeast, stir gently, cover, and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

3️⃣ Add the bread flour, salt, eggs, and softened butter.

4️⃣ Using the dough hook on the lowest speed, knead for 3 to 4 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. It will be very soft but not sticky, and should pull away from the sides of the bowl.

5️⃣ Shape the dough into a ball, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.

6️⃣ Turn the dough out, divide into 16 equal pieces, and shape into hot dog buns. Pinch any seams together.

7️⃣ Place (seam side down) on a parchment lined baking sheet, cover, and let rest for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F and beat an egg with 2 tbsp water to make an egg wash.

8️⃣ Uncover, brush gently with the egg wash and bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes until lightly golden.

9️⃣ Transfer the buns and parchment paper to a cooling rack. Cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

• These buns are meant to be soft and fluffy, not crusty
• Placing the buns close together helps create a pull-apart texture
• Freeze extras once cooled and sliced for easy future meals
• Avoid adding extra flour or the buns may turn out dry
