This thing is massive, but what is it for? This Continuous Catalytic Regeneration Reactor was used in the Dangote project for the construction of the new refinery in Nigeria. CCTR is used in chemical catalysis processes and supports even larger Hydrocracking reactors. Hydrocracking is a petroleum refining technique where high-pressure hydrogen is used to convert heavy fractions of crude oil, such as diesel and aviation fuels, into lighter products such as gasoline and diesel. The Hydrocracking reactors used in this project weigh , while the CCTR, which enables continuous catalyst regeneration during the hydrocracking process, is 95 meters high and weighs 703 tonnes. The entire Dangote refinery project cost 20 billion dollars.
