LOST CHILDREN SEARCH FOR THEIR PARENTS
Western Bosnia Natural Sound Duration 3.12"
The Dayton peace agreement on Bosnia has encouraged hopes that
families divided by several years of war may soon be reunited.
Nena Savanovic, 12, and her brother Nedeljko, 8, mustered the
courage to approach the Bosnian Serb military command in Prijedor,
western Bosnia, to ask about the fate of their parents. Their
mother and father were in Sanski Most when the region fell to
Bosnian government forces. Nena and Nedeljko are staying with
their only relative, an aunt, in Banja Luka. They travelled
unaccompanied to Prijedor to search for their parents. "Koransa"
near Prijedor and "Rakovacke Bare" near Banja Luka are two of many
collective refugee centres. They are overcrowded and poorly
furnished. Many provisional open-air camps with tents and people
on horsecarts still provide the only shelter for thousands of
homeless Bosnians.
