Pere Marquette 1225 and sister 1223 are the sole survivors of the PM Berkshire Class. The 1225 was lucky in that it was restored into operating condition through the 1960s into the early 80s. The 1225 would go onto operating steam excursions with the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan. On October 20th and the 21st, 1990, 1225 was tested with CSX freight trains preparing for the 1991 NRHS convention. However, the return train to East Lansing would not be without its own set of incidents.
