Tihar, also known as Deepawali or the Festival of Lights, is one of the most beloved and widely celebrated festivals in Nepal. In this vlog, I take you through the colorful and heartwarming celebrations of Tihar in Kathmandu, showcasing the customs, rituals, and cultural significance of this special time of year.

Tihar spans five days, with each day dedicated to honoring different aspects of life:

👉 Day 1 (Kag Tihar): Honoring crows, the messengers of death.

👉 Day 2 (Kukur Tihar): Celebrating dogs for their loyalty and companionship.

👉 Day 3 (Laxmi Puja): Welcoming the Goddess of Wealth, Laxmi, with prayers and light.

👉 Day 4 (Goru Tihar): Honoring cows for their role in agriculture and daily life.

👉 Day 5 (Bhaitika): Celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters.

In addition to the joyous festivities, we also observe the Nepal Sambat 1146 calendar, a historical and cultural New Year for the Newar community of Kathmandu Valley.
