On May Day in the Weimar Republic in 1929, the KPD organised a demonstration in violation of police orders. Despite the demonstration being peaceful, the police retaliated with extreme brutality, killed over 2 dozen civilians and wounding and arresting hundreds more. This video examines the background to the violence, the events of May day and the political aftermath.
