Hi everybody if you haven't been here before or been here but never rented a boat it's a must try at least once in your life. This video is made to help business here in Capitola boat and bait. As you all know the pier has been closed down to be rebuilt from the huge storm that damaged part of the pier. Times are tough and we all need each other's help to survive. First off, I would like to say thank you for watching this video. I hope it helps you get an idea of where to park, how to book a boat, how much it will cost importantly one location where to find fish.

Salmon season is opening Saturday 7th and 8th turned out to be a great opener for everyone mostly.
The Capitola boat and bait have been open for a few months this year so we decided to give it a try.
We got the tail end of a bad south swell but managed to find a fish.
We started targeting halibut and white sea bass if they were in the area for an hour with no luck.
So, we drove around looking for a reef that was good enough to catch a limit of rock cod.
We found the fish and decided to catch our limit quickly if possible and move to the next species.
Andrew started feeling sick, so we decided to stay in one spot and try for a limit and go.
When the wind and current kicks in the drift is very fast and the only way to stay on top of the reef / bite is to do donuts, return and repeat.
We managed to get our rock cod limit. After a long boat trip before heading home it's always good to make a tradition and stop by the dairy Queen so we did.
If you're a first timer my recommendation is to use a surf rig using a 4 oz sinker with hooks size 4 and attach the head of a plastic paddle tail white prefer.
minimum hooks are 2 one rod per angler.

Comparing fishing areas from Capitola Boat Rental and Santa Cruz.

First.
Capitola is beginner friendly, and water conditions are calmer than Santa Cruz.
The reef here are closer to the kelp in a half mile radius.
The cliffs provide wind protection from the north and northwest.
Capitola fishing grounds are not as deep as Santa Cruz.

Second.
Santa Cruz is more advance fishing since the weather can create a dangerous environment for new captains who operate the boat. Noon winds create swells thrusting the bow to Nosedive from pushing the stern. Soon as you see the water condition change and wind RUN that boat back closer to the wharf and stay 1 mile diameter should be safer.
There are reef starting at the mile buoy that stretch out to the next buoy in 100-110 ft of water that holds fish. CAUTION ONLY IF WEATHER PERMITS.
There is reef in 50-80ft that hold nice fish as well no need to go far.
Santa Cruz fishing grounds hold a variety of fish species since the coastline is connected to natural bridges and north coastline. The depth of the fishing playing a big part as well.
CAUTION NOON WIND CAN CREATE CHOPPY SWELLS THAT CAN PUT YOU IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION KEEP THAT IN MIND AND RUN BACK TO SAFE GROUND ASAP.
