Rocky Raccoon features a very interesting lineup. Although some claim Paul played the jazz bass on the track, the logical choice is John on the Bass VI, and as Paul said : "It was a difficult song to record, because it had to be all in one take. It would have been very hard to edit, because of the quirkiness of the vocal. But it was fun to do." Paul played the acoustic while singing, so he couldn't play bass at the same time, unless it was an overdub, but most sources point at John playing the bass line on the Bass VI. John also played a small harmonium part, and his last harmonica lines on a Beatles song. This song also features minimal contributions from George, who only sang on the very short backing vocals excerpt coming in just before the last verse. George Martin handled the piano solos, recorded at half-speed, a technique that was used in In My Life and Lovely Rita : I've included the original piano solos for fun in this video. Enjoy!
