Cayman’s Natural Hairshow 2024

Curled, locked and weaved, some 50 models from across Cayman displayed a variety of avant-garde, glamorous and multicultural hair styles for the 2nd annual Natural Hair Show held at Grand Cayman Marriott Resort on 23 June.

The weekend celebration brought together natural hair lovers, hair enthusiasts, beauty professionals, stylists and salon operators to present the creative display on the red carpet.

Hair wasn’t the only thing on display. Models, including children, teens, families, seniors, and mother-and-daughter duos, also showed off fashionable African-themed outfits.

“It’s a cultural movement that shines a light on the positive views of beauty, lifestyle, natural hair and our cultural roots,” Samantha Mitchell, the show’s organiser and model, told the Cayman Compass.

She said, “Hair has a lot to do with your confidence, both male and female, how you see yourself showing up in the world, in the workplace, at home … wherever you go, your hair is the statement, and it’s important to celebrate all expressions of natural hair and beauty.”

“I’m so happy that now natural hair is a part of mainstream beauty, people are embracing their roots, and that we’re celebrating natural beauty in all of its glory. I’m happy of the reception received from this event,” Mitchell said.

This year’s show also featured a panel discussion that explored natural hair, scalp care and overall wellness by local hair specialists.

Singers, dancers and poets, including James Monroe Jr., Colindra-Rodericka McGarvey-Sterling, Madam Nirosa, Michelle Reid, and Dreamchasers, complemented the evening with live performances around the theme of pride and love for natural hair and culture.
