Gisborne: New Zealand's amazing stingray encounter

There are a couple of Kiwi characters you need to meet: their names are Pancake and Waffle. The pair will give you big slobbery kisses and gentle hugs. There’s no social distancing here - they are stingrays.

While the East Cape's beaches, glamping and vineyards are what draw most people, it was a trip to see stingrays in a little seaside community 15 minutes northeast of the city that Stuff Travel journalist Brook Sabin will never forget.
