How to Speed Up Your 50 ton Hand Operated Press 3X with a 10,000 psi Air Operated Hydraulic Pump

Hydraulic shop owner Minos explains the problems and frustrations when trying to hold support and guide a workpiece with one hand whilst trying to actuate the hydraulic pump with the other hand.

You will require an air compressor with at least 60 liter air tank or a compressor capable of supplying 300 liters/min (10.6 cfm) for semi-continuous operation

This is a standard hydraulic Press rated to 50 tons
It's hand actuated so it moves a cylinder
so you have to actually pump the handle here.
Now this makes it a little bit more complicated because you're
only allowing yourself one hand to support the work
install the bearing install the bearing press tool
and you have to do it all with one hand
Because the other one is actually
operating the pump that sends oil to the cylinder.

The Solution
Get yourself an air operated hydraulic power pack.
This EngMatTec Unit has a large 2.3 litre (2.2 quarts) oil tank.
Foot pedal (or hand control ) and four mounting holes

Compressed air inlet
This is the high pressure oil outlet
first, remove the transportation plug
and unpack the high pressure hose and matching high pressure screw together couplings and dust caps.

The hose that comes with this ENGMATTEC pump is rated to a working pressure of 17600 psi
and has a minimum burt pressure of over 42000 psi
Start by applying tape to the male threaded end of the hose and then screwing the male high pressure coupling onto the hose end

You may have to put the coupling in a vise and then tightly screw the hose into the coupling
Then apply thread tape to the other male end and screw the hose assembly tightly into the pump
then push the black bend restrictor up close to the hex nut.

Carefully stretch the dust plug loop over the male coupling and push on the dust cap .take the female high pressure coupling and apply thread tape to the threaded male end and screw the male end of the high pressure coupler onto a female socket

Remove filler breather cap and fill oil tank with ISO 68 hydraulic oil for warm climates or ISO 46 for colder climates.

There is a sight glass to give a general indication that there is oil in the tank.

Reinstall filler breather to top of tank. Tighten lightly and then loosen the breather cap to allow air to enter and escape the tank.

Connect the two couplers together and prepare to prime the pump. Connect compressed air to the pump's inlet.

You can vary the speed of the oil flow by how much you press the pedal (just like an accelerator on a car) but its more sensitive.

So you can vary the speed of the oil supply. You can control it with your foot but you can also control it with your hand and it doesn't need much force to control it with
your hand.....
one of the things I like to do is just to show you just how much force these little units can run.
