"Unchain My Heart" is a song by American singer-musician Ray Charles. The song was released as a single in November 1961. In 1987, British singer Joe Cocker included the song on his album of the same name. This version was released in October of that year as the album's lead single.
"Unchain My Heart" was written by Robert Sharp, Jr. Sharp, then a drug addict, sold the song to jazz guitarist Teddy Powell for $50. Powell demanded to be credited as the lyricist. Sharp later successfully regained his right as the song's true writer. (012)
