End of the era of Begums as Bangladesh undergoes a generational and gender shift

Khaleda Zia's passing & Hasina's exile mark an end not only in Bangladesh's generational politics but also marks a gender shift. Women are not at the helms of affair. Five men are now at the electoral forefront including Khaleda Zia' son Tarique Rahman who will lead the BNP, Muhammad Yunus, Shafiqur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami and Mahfuz Alam formerly of the newly-found National Citizens Party. But, the closer the elections are inching in Bangladesh, the more rifts are emerging within the Islamist groups that have been running Yunus's interim government.
