The car service centre smelled of burnt coffee and tired people. The waiting room was full of hard chairs and buzzing fluorescents. A TV muttered in the corner. I had my Polyend Tracker on my lap, click-clacking away like a cheap typewriter in a cheap office, trying to turn the afternoon into something worth remembering.
Hours crawled past. The beat started to sound good, too good. That is the trouble with long waits. They make you believe in things you should not.
When a worker asked what I was doing, I let my pride do the talking. "Want to hear it?" I said, like I was selling her a ticket to paradise. Her face went from cautious curiosity to a blank ledger in under a minute. I packed up my gear. The room smelled the same but colder.
Anyway, here it is. Listening back, that whole second part feels awkward, maybe even unnecessary. But life is full of unnecessary parts. You just play through them.
